Iowa Pro-Life Leader Endorses Kansas Republican Senator for
President
By Jim Brown

Senator Sam Brownback |
(AgapePress) - Kansas Senator Sam Brownback, a 2008 Republican
presidential hopeful, has received the endorsement of Iowa
pro-life leader Kim Lehman, president of Iowa Right to Life.
Lehman has agreed to serve on the senator's Leadership Committee.
Lehman is slated to hold public forums across Iowa this year to
educate people on pro-life issues and to discuss why she believes
Brownback should be in the White House. In what is perhaps an
indirect swipe at Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, the
pro-lifer points out the main reason why she feels the Kansas
Republican is different from other GOP presidential hopefuls --
that is, the fact that he has been consistently pro-life.
"Some candidates used to be pro-choice," Lehman notes, "and I have
a hard time trusting people that at one time were pro-choice, and
who, in the political process, have become pro-life." And, she
stresses, Brownback has stood for the sanctity of life in other
ways besides opposing abortion-on-demand, such as by leading the
fight in Congress against embryonic stem-cell research while
advocating the benefits of adult stem-cell research.
The Iowa Right to Life spokeswoman appreciates the fact that
Brownback has never redefined his stance on abortion as some
politicians have. "The American public and myself, we are not
trusting what people say any longer," she says, "because we want
to see what [different candidates] have done."
Sam Brownback "has consistently stood behind -- in action -- his
pro-life commitment, and his pro-family commitment," Lehman
asserts. "I've met with him personally," she adds, "and I also see
in him a man who isn't just pro-life; he is wanting to help women
and save babies' lives. It is part of his being."
An August poll in the Des Moines Register found that nearly half
of GOP caucus attendees in Iowa said the issue of abortion will be
the key factor in determining who they decide to support in the
2008 presidential race.
