The Story of Common Ground Christian News

Hello, I am Garry Lovette, founder of Common Ground Christian News.  In 1993, while working in sales at a Christian radio station, God placed in my spirit that a total Christian newspaper was needed in the Shoals area of Northwest Alabama. I put off the notion of starting a newspaper thinking to myself that I neither knew how to start nor to keep a newspaper going.

After leaving Christian radio, I became the manager of a toy store. Sensing that I was out of the will of God, I began to pray for direction. Shortly thereafter, I was fired as manager of the toy store. After having a “pity party” for about three days, I heard the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit say, “Now you can start that Christian newspaper that I wanted you to.”

Since I didn’t have a job at the time, I thought to myself, “Well, I could try.” But I still made all kinds of excuses. I had .10 in my checking account, I had very little computer skills, and I didn’t even know where to start. Each time I had an excuse, I would hear God say, “I have that”, or, “I can do that!” It was then I learned that I really couldn’t do it and that God could if I would allow Him to. After much prayer and with the great help of a dear sister named Kim Hennigan, we published out first edition of “Common Ground” in January 1996. The paper looked absolutely awful, but we were still so proud of it. As we were preparing to print our second edition in February, The Lord called Kim home at the age of 32. It was through her perseverance and her training that I was able to go on with the ministry of Common Ground.

We later changed the name of the paper to “Common Ground Christian News” for legal reasons. We now print (6) different editions of the paper around the Southeastern United States, and will soon become a national Christian Newspaper.

God has blessed us for all these years and we have been blessed to meet and to minister to millions of people throughout the years! To God be the Glory, for He is the one who has accomplished this! - Garry
